The "reality" season has just ended and so, how's my scorecard? :)
1. THE AMAZING RACE 14 - CHECK!
I purely based this on gut feel and I was right! The Asian siblings won! I'd love Mel and Mike to come back for the the All Star Season though. Heck, even deaf Luke and Mom, hot-tempered cheerleaders Kara and Jaime and my African American sistahs Kisha and Jen! Overall, the season's far better than last season's yawnfest.
2. SURVIVOR TOCANTINS - X!
I haven't correctly predicted the Survivor winner two seasons in a row. That sucks! JT did deserve to win although for a while there, I was rooting for Erinn just to bring some unpredictability to an otherwise predictable season. I hope next season will be better.
3. AMERICAN IDOL 8 - CHECK!
Kris was purely a gut choice and he won! I'm so happy. In fact my 3 picks to win were part of the TOP 4, woohoo! Wow, this is the first time since Kelly Clarkson that the eventual winner was not featured in the Audition and Hollywood rounds. Kudos to Kris! I think Kris will fare more like Jordin Sparks. If Danny won, he'll fare like Taylor Hicks. (Peace, Danny fans) Adam will be more like Fantasia, great GREAT performer but I'm not sure if his albums will sell. I'm just happy because Kris' winning is a big STFU to TPTB! Kala n'yo ma-manipulate n'yo ang mga tao with your pre-ordained Final 2 ha! Hehe :)
Goodluck winners! See you next season, reality freaks! :)

American Idol 8 Predictions!
Must be the live band or the bigger stage, or maybe because I didn't read the recap blogs beforehand but for the first time in what I would have considered an underwhelming season, I was actually impressed with the show! I'm referring to the final 13 performance episode where majority of the contestants gave solid numbers. Compared to previous seasons wherein you can already predict by this time the 2 or 3 singers who would surely go all the way to finals, I say this season has an even playing field. That's a good thing because it means unpredictability and who doesn't love that on reality TV?
Having said that, I predict that this season will be a battle between The Pimped and The Underdogs. For the sake of fair play, I wouldn't want The Pimped to win but I also know that the judges (and producers and story editors) have major influence on the voting public and since this is a prediction game, I gotta be objective. :)

Both are pimped, thus very popular with the public. I like Danny Gokey's tone but the pimping just turned me off. No thanks to the producers, I find it hard to objectively judge his performances now. I'm not a fan of high-pitch voices (even if I have one, haha) but Adam is more current, consistent and original in his interpretations.
BRAIN PICK: Adam Lambert
HEART

VERSUS

Both started as underdogs and relied on their vocal prowess to enter the Final 13. Of the two, Allison is more underdog since Alexis was featured in the audition rounds and Ryan always reminds us that she's a single mother. I like both because they give unpredictably original (yet predictably good) performances. But I've always been into pop-rock and so Dial Idol be damned...
HEART PICK: Allison Iraheta
GUT

VERSUS

Lil has been pimped since Day 1 while Kris was invisible until the semifinal rounds. What works against Lil is that an African American woman just won two seasons ago and she also pales in comparison (methinks) to the first female African American Idol. But there's just something about her personality that makes her shine in her performances. I have a gut feeling that she can still surprise. Kris, on the other hand, doesn't have the best voice but is very good-looking and very passionate in every performance. Is that what you call "it"? To borrow Kara, he's a package artist. However, Idol hasn't been really kind to non-"birit" singers but there's always a first time.
GUT PICK: Kris Allen
There you go, I predict Adam, Allison or Kris to win American Idol Season 8.
-----
Can I just add that for sheer entertainment value, I enjoy Megan and Anoop? :)
And I'm sorry, I don't get Matt Giraud YET. He sings in tune but I find him bland and his voice, generic. He's a poor man's Timberlake. Sorry, fans!

Curious about my past predictions?
American Idol 7 - FAIL. I chose Johns over Cook as my Heart pick. This was before Hello
American Idol 6 - FAIL. I was rooting for Blake. Didn't even have Jordin on my radar.
American Idol 5 - WIN. Though I was not really strongly rooting for anyone.
American Idol 4 - WIN. Duh.
American Idol 3 - WIN. From the start, it was purely Fantasia!

American Idol 7 Prediction Score
Olats. Haha. Well, in fairness I got 5 of the Top 6 right. And Cookie was one of my two "heart" picks so I'm happy na rin that I was wrong with my prediction. Hehe.
P.S. Happy to see my two faves Michael and Carly duet during the finale. Michael Johns forever! :)

Who Will Win American Idol 7?
The results are in. We already have our final 12. I only got 8 out of 12 right. I guess VFTW didn't rally enough votes for Danny and I certainly underestimated Kristy Lee Cook's beauty and "pimpage". I'm disappointed of course, considering I got 10 correct picks last year but it's ayt coz this just makes me more excited to improve my standing next year. Adik! Haha! :)
Some say the race now is just for second place because of the obvious popularity of a particular contestant. But I say it's still too early to make that statement. After all, didn't we think Melinda had it in the bag around the same time last year? Along the same lines, most of us also thought it'll be a Daughtry-McPhee finale in Season 5, or that Mario Vasquez (remember him?) would give Carrie a run for her money in the 4th edition.
Or maybe I'm just saying those because I don't want to forego my annual tradition of predicting who'll bag the AI title after the announcement of the Top 12. Haha! Regardless, I'll still make my predictions and do it ala-Survivor Sucks by giving you my Brain, Heart and Gut picks to win American Idol 7. ;)
BRAIN
versus
Obviously, I was referring to David Archuleta earlier. He's the one to beat. This is his game to lose. He's the most popular contestant this season and his rabid fans are making sure everyone knows by massively buying his performance songs on I-Tunes. His version of "Imagine" is the most downloaded AI performance song so far. But Jason Castro is catching up. After performing Hallelujah last week, the Jeff Buckley version skyrocketed to number 2 on ITunes. His shirtless pictures spreading on the net don't hurt his chances either. But still...
BRAIN PICK: David Archuleta
HEART
versus
I've a confession to make. While I've been an AI fan since Season 3, I actually haven't bought any of the contestants' albums. I love the show more than the contestants. :) I do have some guilty pleasure songs from past Idols which I downloaded in Limewire. They're Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" and "Since You've Been Gone" and Blake Lewis' cover of "Time Of The Season" to those who are curious. :D I'm saying these because I'm basing my Heart pick as to which Idol contestant will likely have me download his or her songs on the net (or who knows, even buy his or her album). That being said, I really really like David Cook not just for singing the songs well but also making them his own. TPTB might even make him win in order to make up for the Daughtry debacle. However, I'm a big fan of 90's alternative music and the texture of Michael John's voice highly reminds me of that. His performances are also pleasing to the eyes. And so...
HEART PICK: Michael Lee Johns
GUT
versus
I didn't predict Brooke to make it to the Top 12. While her voice is soothing and beautiful, her range is noticeably limited and for a show that relies heavily on themes, I just didn't think she'll survive. But boy, how she surprised me! What I like about her is that she's aware of her range and so she chooses the right songs and interprets them using her own style. It works to her advantage because it differentiates her from the other girls who are mostly big-belters. The question is, how long can Brooke keep this up and will she be flexible enough to adapt to any theme? (Disco night, anyone?) What more, can we really see Brooke singing in the finale songs like "I Believe", "This Is My Now" or "A Moment Like This"? I believe Blake lost to Jordin because of that. On the other hand, five things work in Carly's favor. She's the most technically polished singer in the group. She's got a big voice and can belt. She has the support of TPTB. She has a very interesting background and personality. And she's by far the most controversial contestant this season because of her previous pro experience. People always love comeback stories.
GUT PICK: Carly Smithson
So there you have it, my TOP 6 and my Brain, Heart and Gut picks to win American Idol 7. :) How about yours?

American Idol 7 Top 12 Predictions!
They are not necessarily my favorites but based on the amount of airtime they had, the "pimping" they got from TPTB, their charismatic or polarizing personality, their internet popularity, and okay, their talent as seen during the first Top 24 shows, I predict the following to be this season's Top 12.

Michael Johns

Carly Smithson

David Archuleta

Jason Castro

Alaina Whitaker

Amanda Overmyer

David Cook

Asiah Epperson

Syesha Mercado

Ramielle Malubay

Danny Noriega

Robbie Carico
Just to review my track record (haha!), I got 10 out of 12 last year, 9 out of 12 in Season 5, and 5 out of 7 in Season 4. I think it's more difficult to predict this year especially since most of the Top 24 contestants got fair amount of airtime during the audition and Hollywood rounds. (Only 4 finalists didn't get any, I believe). This basically means that notwithstanding the pimping of the Aussie, Irish and Twink, it's a relatively even field. :)

Who Will Be The Next American Idol?
Nag-improve ako from last year. Na-predict ko ng tama ang sampu na pumasok sa Top 12 ng American Idol 6. Hehe. Last year, nine lang ang tama ko. Geeky noh? :)
Last year, na-predict ko ang pagkapanalo ni Taylor, pati na rin ang Top 3. Tama rin ako kina Carrie at Fantasia. Mukhang mas mahirap this year pero try natin. :) I think any of the 4 will be the next American Idol. "Marketability" ang keyword this year after mas kumita ang mga albums nina Daughtry at Mcphee kesa kay Hicks. :)
Blake Lewis

Melinda Doolittle

Chris Richardson

Reality Season Ends...
...and my life should have begun already, yet 5 days after The Big Night and I'm still doing nothing. I haven’t made any plans. My daily routine so far consists of surfing the net and doing cardio exercise (or pretending to do it). In a perfect world, I seriously need a month-long debriefing but as the cliché goes, our world is not perfect so tomorrow, I’m already called to report for a meeting. I hope it’s not work-related, something outing-related maybe, because I honestly haven’t figured out yet what to do next. God bless me, yes. :)
Oh, and I just finished watching all the reality show finales (thanks, Mininova). Petty as I always sound, at least it got me into good mood knowing my predictions were mostly correct this season.
Taylor won American Idol.
Kim won Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition.
BJ and Tyler won The Amazing Race.
It was only Aras of Survivor whom I wasn’t able to correctly predict. Danielle coming in second was a big consolation already, though.
Argh, I’m still having fun “escaping” through reality show programs! And I’m still hoping I can live my reality show dream in the future. Still hoping! Haaay…

Nine
Got 9 out of 12. Not bad. Not bad. Hehe. And after seeing more of their performances and personalities these past weeks, I'm now trimming my American Idol Winner Picks to 4 and they are...

Katharine McPhee

Chris Daughtry

Taylor Hicks

Kellie Pickler
I know Kellie was not my original choice. I didn't buy the innocent country girl persona and I wasn't really impressed with her voice. BUT she sounds and looks sooo CURRENT, I won't be surprised if she ends up winning the title.

American Idol 5 Picks
Finally saw the TOP 24 performances (thank you, Bit Comet!) and here are the 6 contestants who I THINK will be the next American Idol. Of course, we all know it's not just about the singing voice, right? As Simon always says in his trademark British accent, "there's also the personality and likeability factor!" Hehe :)

Chris Daughtry & Katherine McPhee

Taylor Hicks & Paris Bennett

Ace Young & Mandisa
And the rest of the TOP 12 will be...

Elliott Yamin & Lisa Tucker

Kellie Pickler & Will Makar

Ayla Brown & David Radford
